History of the Belgo-Luxembourgeoise WAIMH

• An initial group of psychotherapists (12) from Belgium and Luxembourg working in the field of infanthood meet twice a year to exchange their experiences.
• In may 1998, they formed the board of the new « Belgo-Luxembourgeoise » WAIMH, which is affiliated to the international WAIMH group. Dr. A. Watillon was the first president.
• The actual president is Dr. C. Devriendt-Goldman. Vice-president is Pr. L. Roegiers. Pr. D. Charlier-Mikolajczak is responsible for international relationships. We are now 100 members and we maintain close relations with French, European and the International WAIMH as reference groups.

In the future : our aims

The board continues its work inside the initial group twice a year and organizes three different activities:

1. One-day meetings: The first one took place in 2001: “A baby and its Multiple origins, the second in 2002: “First signs of autism” and the last one in March 2003: “Sufferings of caregivers”.
   In 2004, the topic is:
2. Work out clinical research projects
3. Groups whose aim is to develop local networks in relation with perinatal period. At this stage, five groups have been created:
• Psychotherapeutic approach in a neonatal intensive care unit (Dr. M.P. Durieux, Dr. C. Devriendt-Goldman). Active at the present time.
• Initiation to the first signs of autism (Dr. A.Wintgens).
• Signs and treatments of post-partum depression and psychosis (Pr. D. Charlier-Mikolajczak).
• Psychotherapeutic in-home services (Dr. E. Pirard, Mrs. N. Ferrard)
• Liaison psychiatry in a paediatric hospital (Mrs. M. Camus, Mrs. R.Rosati)
